Max : "It was long ago, in a land far far away..."
Sebastien : "Dude, it was in London between lectures."
"Fine - It was long ago, in a land far far away - between lectures - that Sebastien came up with the idea: lets get a car and leave. Why not ? Although between civil engineering lectures, and rowing training that are getting longer and more intense, going around the world was going to be a challenge. Nevertheless, we had a really good idea, we had to exploit it. So then, we searched for a couple weeks, without really knowing what we were searching for or where we search for it. With the fact that we were part of the CivSoc committee (Civil Engineering Society) and Engineers Without Borders Imperial, the solution to our problem should have been obvious - we had to run the 4L Trophy. This would enable us to join our work through charities and societies to our will to cross Europe and Morocco."
"Mate, you got a pen? I don't have anything to take notes..."
"Here you go. Its MY pen though. Where was I - It should have been obvious! Especially to Sebastien, that is used to plan and think about humanitarian trips of Engineers Without Border Imperial for the construction of schools throughout the world. When the solution finally came to us, we started the work: the name of our association, our objectives, the impact that we could have on our project and mainly the support we could bring to Enfants du Désert. Starting now, everything started speeding up: in just about two weeks, we started the paperwork to create Skempton On The Road, we made our website, our Facebook page, our crowdfunding pages and our sponsorship brochures. We started getting in contact with owners of Renault 4L cars that wanted to sell their vehicle, we started imagining how we would paint the cars, where would the sponsors go, through which town would we go through - overall, daydreaming and setting our sight on the stars."
"And then, you clicked on SEND THE PAPERWORK TO THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT"
"Yes, that was quite an exciting step - our association was official ! Now, there was no turning back. The thrill and excitement started building up, we started to stay up late to make the website beautiful, to discuss on our approach to companies, to complete our provisional budget and to plan our marketing strategies."
"And then, courseworks. We are trying to get a Civil Engineering degree after all..."
"Do you want to write the blog?"
"No, no, it's more entertaining to watch you struggle! But hurry up, we have training,"
"Anyways, we'll finish this later..."
